Secretary's Report (Bulletin) Apr 2015

Posted by Gerry

Hi Everyone,

Rumour has it that summer is just around the corner, the boat is back in the water and we have even seen some sunshine – long may it last.

Committee meetings were held in January and March and the following are some of the items discussed.

Jimmy Lawrence and Jim Merchant continued working on the mower, which unfortunately broke the bearings at the end of last season.  Some parts have been difficult to obtain as the mower is now obsolete.  We therefore agreed that Jimmy would try and obtain another second hand mower at a cost of up to £7,000 and we would sell the old one whilst it is still running and therefore commanding a better price.

We have purchased a battery powered lamp for the pill box which can be charged via the mains or car charger.  This will provide short term lighting when looking for things in the pill box.  It will be kept, with the charger, just inside the pillbox.

The new marquees have been ordered and will be delivered in time for the working party on 25th  April.

Peter Brooker has continued to interview new members and their details appear in his report.

Anthea has worked hard putting together a programme of social events for 2015 and would really appreciate support from more members. It is disheartening to run an event where only 20 people turn up. Those who don't attend are missing out on some good nights.  Anthea would appreciate feedback and ideas from members – If you don't like the type of event, or think it is too expensive, let her know – better still, give her suggestions of what you would like to do.

The treasurer reports that the club finances are still in a healthy state. Mike is progressing the move to on-line banking.

Nick Aish has continued to be our Medway River Users Association rep and kept us up to date on all that is going on on the river and fed back our concerns.  Read his full report in the bulletin.

With no Rear Commodore Cruising this year, some of the committee have offered to run cruises and again it would be helpful if you could let them know early if you would like to join in. Details in this bulletin.

Gerry McDonnell gave a presentation on updating the club website.  This will mean changing providers, so the new website will be limited for a while until Gerry has time to build it all.  The new site will enable us to have a password protected members' section which can include items for sale, a communication page and details of forthcoming events, cruises etc.  IMPORTANT Gerry has asked that those who do not want their details published on this secure, password protected site to let me know now .

Lastly, please remember your committee is here to represent you.  If you have an item you wished to have raised at a committee meeting, please let me know.

Happy boating.
