The following consultation request has been sent to Boat Owners with an e-mail address in the Environment Agency's database. Please do have your say, it is important to share your views!

We are contacting you as an Environment Agency boat registration or gold licence holder to invite you to have your say on our proposals on the future of boat registration charges from 2022.

We have undertaken a comprehensive review of our boat registration charging scheme. Our proposals are for a scheme which is simpler, more consistent across our waterways and provides the right contribution to the overall costs for the delivery of the navigation service.
The consultation is now live. You can view the consultation documents and questions at https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/environment-and-business/nav-boat-reg-charge

The best way to respond is online. However if you are not able to review the consultation and respond online, you can do it by email or post. Please email [email protected] using ‘Navigation charge proposals 2022 to 2024’ in the title or call us on 03708 506 506 (Monday – Friday 8am to 6pm). We will send you the consultation documents and a response form to complete.

The consultation will run for 8 weeks and will close on 16 September 2021.

Any responses we receive after this date will not be included in the analysis.

Once the consultation has closed, we will review the responses and adjust our proposals before seeking approval from the Secretary of State for the Environment to implement the new charge scheme. We propose to implement the new charges from January 2022 for Thames and April 2022 for Anglian Waterways and the Upper Medway.

Yours faithfully

Andy Wilkinson
National Navigation Manager
